FC Gifu ( Japanese FC 岐阜 , Efu Shī Gifu ) is a Japanese football club from Gifu , the capital of Gifu Prefecture . Since 2007, the club has been playing second class in the J2 League .
The club's logo is intended to represent Gifu Prefecture. The points on the coat of arms are said to represent the mountains in the north of the prefecture. The flowers are typical of the region. Each of the three lines represents one of the three Kiso rivers ( Kiso , Ibi and Nagara ). The bottom of the coat of arms has the same shape as a helmet of the Tokugawa clan from the 17th century.
history
Since the founding of the first football league in Japan, Gifu Prefecture has been represented by the works team of the prefecture-based company Seinō Transportation ( Japanese西 濃 運輸, Seinō Un'yu ), which was relegated from the Japan Football League at the end of the 1997 season and shortly thereafter was dissolved.
It was not until 2001 that FC Gifu was founded as a new team, including the former manager of Seino Co. Masayuki Katsuno and the former player Takashi Umeda. The club managed to move up to the now third-rate Japan Football League in 2007 and ended its first season in third place, which enabled a direct promotion to the J. League Division 2 .
