Ryōichi Maeda ( Japanese 前 田 遼 一 , Maeda Ryōichi ; born October 9, 1981 in Kobe ) is a Japanese football player .

Career

Maeda began his professional career in 2000 with Júbilo Iwata and made his debut on May 3, 2000 in the league game against Kawasaki Frontale . He scored his first goal on August 28, 2001 in the Yamazaki Nabisco Cup against JEF United Ichihara Chiba . In the 2009 season he was the top scorer of the J. League with 20 goals . Also in the following year he was top scorer with 17 goals together with Joshua Kennedy . In 2015 he moved to league rivals FC Tokyo . He played for the club until the end of 2018. In early 2019, he signed a contract with the second division club FC Gifu in Gifu . At the end of 2019, he had to start the third division with Gifu.

National team

He made his debut for the Japanese national soccer team on August 22, 2007 in a friendly against Cameroon . He scored his first goal on October 17 of the same year in a friendly against Egypt . At the 2011 Asian Cup in Qatar he played in all six games and won the competition by beating Australia 1-0 in the final .
