The 1995 J.League was the third season of the Japanese J.League . Fourteen clubs took part in it. The regular season was played in two half series and began on March 18, 1995. After the end of the second half series on November 25, 1995, the winners of the two half series, Yokohama Marinos and Verdy Kawasaki , played in two games for the Japanese championship. Verdy was denied the title hat trick; they had to admit defeat to the new titleholder Marinos 1-0 in both games.
mode
The season was held in two halves. In each half the clubs played against each other twice, once at home and once away. There were no ties; in the event of a tie after 90 minutes, the playing time was extended by two fifteen minutes, whereby the golden goal rule was applied. If it was still a draw after that, the winner of the game was determined by a penalty shoot-out .
After the number of games won in the last two seasons was decisive, points have now been distributed for the first time. There were three points for a win and one point for a defeat on penalties. The table for each semi-series was created according to the following criteria:
- Number of points scored
- Goal difference
- Goals scored
- Results of the games among themselves
- Decision game or coin toss
After the end of a half series, the club qualified with the most points for the finals of the Japanese championship. The winner of the finals qualified as Japanese champion for the Asian Club Championship 1996/97 .
Due to the renewed increase from 12 to 14 teams, the number of games to be completed per team changed again; instead of 44, 52 games were to be played. For this reason, the league cup was not held this season as an exception .
