Naoto Sakurai ( Japanese 桜 井 直 人 , Sakurai Naoto ; born September 2, 1975 in Saitama Prefecture ) is a former Japanese football player .
Career
Sakurai learned to play soccer on the school team at Omiya Higashi High School . He signed his first contract in 1994 with the Urawa Red Diamonds . The club played in the highest league in the country, the J1 League . For the club, he completed 20 first division games. In 1999 he moved to league rivals Verdy Kawasaki (today: Tokyo Verdy). In 2004 he won the Kaiser Cup with the club . For the club he completed 116 first division games. In 2005 he moved to league rivals Omiya Ardija . For the club he completed 50 first division games. At the end of 2008 he ended his career as a football player.
