The J.League Division 1 2007 was the fifteenth season of the highest division of the Japanese J.League and the ninth under the name Division 1 . Eighteen clubs took part in it. The season began on March 3 and ended on December 1, 2007; No games were played between June 30 and August 1 due to the 2007 Asian Cup .
The championship was won by Kashima Antlers , for the team from East Kanto it was the fifth Japanese championship. Direct relegated to Division 2 2008 were Ventforet Kofu and Yokohama FC last year . Sanfrecce Hiroshima played in the relegation against the third of the J.League Division 2 in 2007 and failed there against opponents Kyōto Sanga .
mode
As in the previous season , the clubs faced each other twice in a double round tournament , once at home and once away. There were three points for a win; in the case of a draw, each team received one point. The final table was therefore created according to the following criteria:
- Number of points scored
- Goal difference
- Goals scored
- Results of the games among themselves
- Decision game or coin toss
The club with the best result at the end of the season won the Japanese championship and qualified for the 2008 AFC Champions League . The two worst teams were relegated directly to the J.League Division 2 2008 , the third from last had to play against the third-best team in Division 2 in two relegation games for a place in Division 1 for the coming season. In the event of a tie after the end of these two games, the away goals rule was applied; should this not result in a decision either, extra time and, if necessary, a penalty shoot- out was carried out.
Attendees
A total of eighteen teams took part in the season. At the end of the preseason again three teams left the league for Division 2; Kyōto Purple Sanga maintained its image as an elevator team and promptly rose after the third rise in the previous year as bottom of the table again. The team from the imperial city was accompanied by Cerezo Osaka , who, being penultimate in the table, were relegated from Division 1 for the second time after four years of league membership.
Avispa Fukuoka was able to save on the last day of the season on the sixteenth place in the table and thus in the relegation, but failed there due to the away goals rule to Vissel Kobe and rose like Kyoto Purple Sanga directly from Division 1. Conversely, Vissel celebrated the direct return to the House of Lords after relegation from the highest Japanese soccer league in 2005.
As further climbers from Division 2 2006 , their champions Yokohama FC and second-placed Kashiwa Reysol completed the field of participants. For Kashiwa it looked a long time after the third relegation participation in a row before the direct promotion place and thus the immediate return to the upper house could be achieved on the last day of the game. In contrast, the team from Yokohama, founded in 1999 by fans of the Yokohama wings as the unofficial successor to the club that had been absorbed into the F. Marinos, was a real newcomer.
