Yūichirō Nagai ( Japanese 永 井 雄 一郎 Nagai Yūichirō ; * February 14, 1979 in Tokyo ) is a Japanese football player .

Career

Nagai has played for Mitsubishi Yowakai , a Mitsubishi- supported sports club in Tokyo , since primary school . After graduating from high school, he went to the Urawa Reds , where he made his professional debut on April 12, 1997. In his first season he came on 30 missions and scored three goals. In the summer of 1998 he was loaned to Germany for one season , to Karlsruher SC . In 1999 he returned to Urawa. In 2003 he took over the shirt number 9 from Masahiro Fukuda , the Mister Reds . Even if he has not always been part of the team since then, he regularly makes over 20 appearances per season.

Since his youth, Nagai also played in the various youth national teams. He played twice in the Junior World Cup , in Malaysia in 1997 and in Nigeria in 1999 . The Japanese team reached the final in Nigeria, but lost to Spain. He was first appointed to the senior national team in 2003 and took part in the 2003 Confederations Cup .

Play style

Nagai is a very big player in Japanese comparison. However, his header goals are rather rare. His specialty is above all dribbling. In the 2004 season, for example, in his hat trick against Tokyo Verdy in 1969 , he scored a goal after dribbling about 70 meters.
