Jong Tae-se (born March 2, 1984 in Nagoya , Japan ) is a North Korean football player of South Korean descent, born and raised in Japan , who has been under contract with Shimizu S-Pulse since July 2015 . Other transcriptions of his name are Chŏng Tae-se , Jeong Dae-se (정대세) and, in Japanese, Chon Tese (チ ョ ン ・ テ セ). In the Bundesliga he ran under the name Chong Tese .

Jong is often compared to the English striker Wayne Rooney because of his fast and powerful style of play and is referred to as "Wayne Rooney of Asia".

Jong, the third generation son of a South Korean and a North Korean woman living in Japan , attended schools there operated by the North Korean-related organization Ch'ongryŏn (until 1997: "Korean 2nd Primary School Aichi" ( 愛 知 朝鮮 第二 初級 学校 , Aichi Chōsen dai- ni shokyū gakkō ), 1997–1999: Middle School of the "Korean Tōshun Elementary and Middle School" ( 東 春 朝鮮 初中 級 学校 , Tōshun Chōsen shochūkyū gakkō ), 1999-2002: Upper School of the "Korean Middle and High School Aichi" ( 愛 知朝鮮 中高級 学校 , Aichi Chōsen chūkōkyū gakkō )) before he was enrolled in Tokyo from 2002 to 2006 at Chosŏn Taehakkyo (Korea University), also operated by Ch'ongryŏn. He started playing football during elementary school, and from 2006 he played for Kawasaki Frontale in the J. League . With Kawasaki he was Japanese runner-up in the 2006, 2008 and 2009 seasons, 2007 and 2009 his team was defeated in the final of the Yamazaki Nabisco Cup , the Japanese league cup. With the team he also reached the quarter-finals of the AFC Champions League in 2007 and 2009 .

For the 2010/11 season Jong moved to Germany for the second division club VfL Bochum and is - since his debut on August 23, 2010 in the home game against TSV 1860 Munich - the first North Korean in German professional football; in this encounter he scored two goals in the 3-2 victory of his team. He scored three goals on October 1, 2011 in a 5-3 win in the away game at FC Ingolstadt 04 .

During the 2011/12 winter break, Jong moved to 1. FC Köln ; The parties have agreed not to disclose the terms of the contract and the transfer fee. On February 25, 2012 (23rd matchday) he made his Bundesliga debut in the 2-0 home defeat against Bayer 04 Leverkusen as the first North Korean (substitute for Milivoje Novakovič in the second half ).

In January 2013, Jong moved to the South Korean K League Classic to the Suwon Samsung Bluewings . Since July 9, 2015 he has been playing for Shimizu S-Pulse in the Japanese J1 League .

National team

Jong, then still a South Korean citizen, is said to have decided to play for North Korea in the future following a defeat by North Korea against Japan in qualifying for the 2006 World Cup . With the support of the Ch'ongryŏn, he finally received a North Korean passport and successfully applied to FIFA to change associations.

He made his debut on June 19, 2007 as part of qualifying for the 2008 East Asian Cup in the national team and scored four goals each in his first two games against Mongolia and Macau , which also earned him the title of top scorer in the qualifying round. In the finals he scored in the 1-1 draw against Japan and South Korea and was one of the top scorers there with two goals.

In qualifying for the 2010 World Cup , Jong completed twelve games and scored one goal. During the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, Jong played all three preliminary round matches from the start and made a name for himself when he cried while the national anthem was being played before the opening match against Brazil .

In his 33 international matches so far , Jong has scored 15 goals.
