The third edition of the East Asian Football Championship , officially East Asian Football Championship in 2008 , was from 17 to 23. February 2008 in Chongqing in China held. Four teams from the East Asian region have qualified for the finals. Of these, South Korea , PR China and Japan were already set. In qualifying in Macau could North Korea prevail. South Korea became East Asian champions in 2008 . For the first time there was a pre-qualification.

In the pre-qualification the two worst teams played in order to qualify for the qualification. The qualifying round was played in a group stage and a knockout round. The winner of the qualification took part in the final round. The East Asian champions were determined through group matches.

The tournament winner received $ 500,000 as a prize. The second got $ 300,000, the third got $ 200,000 and the last group got $ 150,000.

venue

The Olympic Sports Center in Chongqing in the People's Republic of China was the venue for all final tournament games . It was the first hosting of the East Asian Championship in China, with which all seeded teams played the East Asian Championship once. China already hosted the Dynasty Cup in 1990 and 1992.

The venue for the qualifying games was the Macau Olympic Complex in Macau . The pre-qualification games took place at the Oleai Sports Complex in Saipan ( Northern Mariana Islands ) and at the Guam National Football Stadium in Hagåtña , Guam .

Guam thus qualified for the qualification of the East Asian Football Championship. The Northern Mariana Islands took 10th place in the overall tournament ranking.
