The East Asian Football Championship 2017 (officially EAFF Football Championship 2017 , also called EAFF E-1 Football Championship 2017 for sponsorship reasons ) was the seventh edition of the tournament and took place in Japan from December 9 to 16, 2017 . Japan hosted the finals for the fourth time.
Ten teams from the East Asian region played for the title of East Asian Champion . The defending champion from South Korea won the tournament for the fifth time and prevailed against the hosts from Japan , China and North Korea .
Venue and mode
The mode remained unchanged from the 2015 tournament . Initially, the four weaker teams from 2015 each played once against each other in the first qualifying round. The group winners qualified for the second qualifying round and met the already seeded teams from Guam, Hong Kong and North Korea. The group winners of the second round complemented the teams of the final round, for which the three strongest associations of the EAFF , China, Japan and South Korea had already been seeded.
The respective hosts were announced at the end of March 2016. Guam hosted the first qualifying round and Hong Kong hosted the second qualifying round. The final round took place in Japan for the fourth time.
