The East Asian Football Championship ( Engl. : East Asian Football Championship ) is one of the East Asian Football Federation be transmitted (EAFF) football tournament. The ten member associations of EAFF are eligible to participate: China , Guam , Hong Kong , Japan , Macau , Mongolia , North Korea , South Korea , Taiwan and the Northern Mariana Islands .
history
The forerunner tournament was the Dynasty Cup, which was played four times between 1990 and 1998 . The aim of the event was to promote the quality of East Asian football and the competitiveness of the national teams through the competition. Four countries each took part in the tournament. PR China , South Korea and Japan participated in all tournaments. North Korea was the fourth participating country in 1990 and 1992 and Hong Kong in 1995 and 1998 . The four participants each played three games in the league mode everyone against everyone. The group first then played against the runner-up in a final for the tournament victory. In 1995, a game for third place was also played between the third and fourth placed. When the EAFF was founded on May 28, 2002, the Dynasty Cup was discontinued in favor of the East Asian Championship.
Since 2005 there has also been a women's championship , which takes place parallel to the men's tournament.
In 2010, the winner received $ 500,000 in prize money, the runner-up $ 300,000, the third $ 200,000 and the fourth $ 150,000.
mode
Four teams take part in the final round. Japan, PR China and South Korea are set. The fourth team will be determined in two qualifying rounds from the remaining six member associations. In 2012, Australia participated as a guest in the 2013 qualifiers and was able to qualify for the finals. The East Asian Championship has so far been played five times, each in league format. that is, there were no finals or 3rd place games.
