The East Asian Football Championship 2019 (officially EAFF Football Championship 2019 , also called EAFF E-1 Football Championship 2019 for sponsorship reasons ) was the eighth edition of the tournament and took place in South Korea from December 10th to 18th, 2019 . South Korea hosted the finals for the third time.
Ten teams from the East Asian region played for the title of East Asian Champion . The defending champion from South Korea won the tournament for the sixth time and prevailed against Japan , China and Hong Kong .
Venue and mode
The mode remained unchanged from the 2017 tournament . Initially, the four weaker teams from 2017 each played once against each other in the first qualifying round. The group winners qualified for the second qualifying round and met the already seeded teams from the Republic of China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and North Korea. The group winners of the second round complemented the teams of the final round, for which the three strongest associations of the EAFF , China, Japan and South Korea, were already seeded.
The respective hosts were announced at the end of March 2018. Mongolia hosted the first qualifying round and the Republic of China, Taiwan hosted the second qualifying round. The final round took place in South Korea for the third time.
