The first edition of the East Asian Football Championship , officially East Asian Football Championship in 2003 , was from 17 to 10. December 2003 in Japan discharged. Four teams from the East Asian region have qualified for the finals. Of these, South Korea , PR China and Japan were already set. In the qualification held in Hong Kong , the host Hong Kong was able to prevail. South Korea became East Asian champions in 2003 . North Korea withdrew its participation.
In the qualification, the five worst teams in the association played against each other in a group stage, the winners of which qualified for the final round. The East Asian champions were determined through group matches.
The winner's prize was US $ 500,000. The runner-up received US $ 300,000, the third received US $ 200,000 and the fourth received US $ 150,000.
