The Hong Kong Stadium , HKS for short ( Chinese 香港 大 球場 / 香港 大 球场 , Pinyin Xiānggǎng Dà Qiúchǎng , Jyutping Hoeng 1 gong 2 Daai 6 Kau 4 coeng 4 ; short 大 球場 / 大 球场 , Dà Qiúchǎng , Jyutping Daai 6 Kau 4 coeng 4 , coll. 埔 頭 / 埔 头 , Pǔtóu , Jyutping Bou 3 tau 4 ) is a stadium in Hong Kong , which is located in the Wan Chai district on Hong Kong Island . The 58,500 m² multi-purpose stadium offers space for 40,000 spectators and is also the largest football stadium in the city. It is the home of the Hong Kong men's national football team and also (as of 2018/19) the home games of Eastern AA in the Hong Kong Premier League .

The Hong Kong Stadium was opened as the Hong Kong Government Stadium ( 香港 政府 大 球場 / 香港 政府 大 球场 , Xiānggǎng Zhèngfǔ Dà Qiúchǎng , Jyutping Hoeng 1 gong 2 Zing 3 fu 2 Daai 6 Kau 4 coeng 4 ) in 1952 and is currently hosting the opening space for 28,000 spectators. From 1952 to 2015, the South China AA club played their home games in this stadium. To date (2018/19), South China AA has won the Hong Kong soccer championship 41 times and has won the Hong Kong Cup nine times. In addition to this club, the Hong Kong national soccer team also uses the stadium for international soccer matches. The successes of the national team, however, are limited. Since you have never participated in a soccer world championship, your greatest success is a third place in the 1956 Asian championship .
In order to meet the current capacity requirements of the Hong Kong stadium, the number of seats was increased to 40,000 during the renovation of the stadium in cooperation with the Hong Kong Jockey Club in 1992 . During the renovation work, the previously existing athletics tracks were also removed. Schools that had previously used the stadium as a venue for competitions were asked to find a new location to hold their competitions. However, problems arose with the lawn on the first day after the renovation. Manchester United coach Alex Ferguson noticed after his club's stint at the stadium that the turf was uneven, sandy and very slippery, making it easy for players to get injured. A little later this problem was resolved by renewing the playing surface.

In addition to football matches, the Hong Kong Stadium also hosts rugby games , for example the Hong Kong Sevens , the most famous tournament in the IRB Sevens World Series , every year . In the Hong Kong Sevens, 24 national selections always play for victory, the winners include England , Australia and New Zealand .

The stadium can be easily reached via public transport by underground or bus . There is about a 15-minute walk from the output F of the MTR -Haltstelle Causeway Bay station ( 銅鑼灣站 / 铜锣湾站 , Zhàn Tongluowan , Jyutping Tung 4 lo 4 waan 1 Zaam 6 / ugs. Tung 4 lo 4 waan 1 * 4 Zaam 6 ) of the Island Line removed. It is also connected to various lines of the local bus operators Citybus and KMB . For the private individual transport , the stadium has 41 paid parking for cars, of which two parking spaces are intended for drivers with disabled parking permit. However, public use of the parking lot is excluded on days with events in the stadium.
