The Guam Football Association National Training Center , also known as the GFA National Training Center , is a soccer field in Dededo , Guam . The owner and operator is the national football association of Guams, the Guam Football Association (GFA), which is based near the training center. The facility, which has a capacity of 5,000 seats, includes three soccer fields , including one with natural grass, a beach soccer field and a futsal field.

Mainly all leagues organized by the GFA are played in the training center, including the games of the highest soccer league, the Guam League . In addition, games of the Guamian national football team are played there.

history

In May 2003, FIFA approved the construction of a new headquarters for the Guam Football Association and a training center in Dededo through its Financial Assistance Program (FAP) . The total cost was $ 550,000. The opening took place on May 7, 2005. In the following years, the facility was continuously expanded. A new artificial turf pitch was built in 2009 and more football pitches in 2011, as well as solar systems for electricity generation.

The center is mainly used for the games of the two highest leagues in the country, the Guam League and the Guam Second Division , the national cup competition and various youth and senior teams. The Guamian national football team played their first home games in a World Cup qualification in the stadium in the course of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup. Against Turkmenistan (1-0) and India (2-1), the team was able to achieve their first two victories in a World Cup qualification on June 11 and 16, 2015.

In July 2014 and July 2016, the training center hosted the first round of qualification for the East Asian Championship for both men and women .
