Morgan Alexandra Lake (born May 12, 1997 in Reading , England ) is a British high jumper who started her career in the heptathlon .

Athletic career

Morgan Lake was very successful from a young age. She set several British records for children and adolescents in the high jump and heptathlon. In 2013 she took part in the World Youth Championships . As the leader on the 1st day, she gave up the competition after a very bad long jump and javelin throw. In 2014 she improved the U18 world record of the Swede Carolina Klüft to 4284 points in a pentathlon in Växjö . In May 2014 she also improved the British youth record in the heptathlon and set a new British high jump record with 1.93 m. Her greatest successes as a heptathlete so far were winning two gold medals at the Junior World Championships in Eugene . This was followed by participation in the high jump at the European Championships in Zurich , where she was eliminated in qualification.

In 2015, she finished ninth at the European Indoor Championships in Prague with 4527 points. She won another gold medal in the high jump at the Junior European Championships with a height of 1.91 m. This was followed by participation in the World Championships in Beijing , where she was eliminated with 1.89 m in qualification . In 2016 she was seventh in the pentathlon at the World Indoor Championships in Portland with 4499 points and could not finish the competition at the European Championships in Amsterdam . At the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , she made it to the finals and finished tenth there with a skipped 1.93 m.

In 2017 Lake again took part in the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade and finished eighth there with a height of 1.85 m. In August she reached sixth place at the home world championships in London with 1.95 m in the final . The following year she was fourth at the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham with 1.93 m and then won the silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast behind Levern Spencer from St. Lucia with 1.93 m . In August she came seventh at the European Championships in Berlin with 1.91 m and in 2019 she finished ninth with the same height at the European Indoor Championships in Glasgow . She then reached sixth place at the U23 European Championships in Gävle with 1.85 m and was eliminated from the qualification at the World Championships in Doha with 1.85 m .

From 2016 to 2019 , Lake was British champion in the high jump outdoors and from 2016 to 2019 also in the hall.
