Nam Song-chol (born May 7, 1982 in Pyongyang ) is a North Korean football player .

Career

Nam appears internationally as a player in the April 25 Sports Group , the club of the Korean People's Army .

He has been part of the North Korean national team since 2003 and was with the team in the final of the King's Cup in Thailand in 2003 and 2005 . As the only North Korean player, he was at the East Asian Championships in 2005, 2008 and 2010 in both the three qualifying tournaments and in the two finals in 2005 and 2008 in the North Korean squad. In 2008 he was named best defender in the qualifying round, and in 2005 he finished third with the team in the finals.

After Nam had already made nine appearances in qualifying for the 2006 World Cup , he was also one of the pillars of the team in the successful qualification for the 2010 World Cup . Together with Ahn Young-hak and Kim Yong-jun , he pulled the strings in midfield and acted in front of the relatively inexperienced four-man defense chain consisting of Cha Jong-hyok , Ri Jun-il , Pak Nam-chol and Ri Kwang-chon .

Kim was also part of the squad at the World Cup finals in South Africa, but only played 15 minutes in the second preliminary round match against Portugal (final score 0: 7).
