Kim Yong-jun (born July 19, 1983 ) is a North Korean soccer player .

Career

Kim appears internationally as a player in the Pyongyang sports group . Between 2006 and 2008, Kim was one of the few North Korean-born players allowed to play abroad. First he played for the Chinese second division club Yanbian FC in 2006 and 2007 , and in 2008 he made some appearances in China for the first division club Chengdu Blades . In 2009 he returned to North Korea to join the Pyongyang sports group.

Kim has been part of the North Korean national team since 2001 . In 2002 the defensive player won the King's Cup in Thailand with the team , and in 2003 he played in several qualifying games for the 2004 Asian Cup . In 2005 he was named Most Valuable Player in the qualifying tournament for the East Asian Championship 2005 , in the final round he finished third with the team; In 2008 he was also part of the final squad. In qualifying for the 2010 East Asian Championship , he surprisingly failed with the national team.

After Kim had already made eleven appearances in qualifying for the 2006 World Cup , he was also one of the pillars of the team in the successful qualification for the 2010 World Cup . Together with Ahn Young-hak and Nam Song-chol , he pulled the strings in midfield and acted in front of the relatively inexperienced four-man defense chain consisting of Cha Jong-hyok , Ri Jun-il , Pak Nam-chol and Ri Kwang-chon .

At the World Cup finals, Kim was also part of the squad, but only played a 32-minute mission in the second preliminary round match against Portugal (final score 0: 7).
