Everton Kempes dos Santos Gonçalves , often only known by his stage name Kempes , (born August 3, 1982 in Carpina , † November 28, 2016 in La Unión , Colombia ) was a Brazilian football player .

Athletic career

Kempes, who came to Rio de Janeiro as a youth, began his career at Canto do Rio FC , and from 2002 the striker played for Nacional de Muriaé . This was followed by short-term engagements at Paraná Clube , for which he played two games in Série A , and Estrela do Norte FC from 2004 , before he won his first title in 2006 as a player of Vitória FC by winning the Espírito Santo national championship. However, he only stayed here for half a year, stations at Sertãozinho FC , Clube 15 de Novembro and Ceará SC followed. In 2008 he joined SER Caxias do Sul , but was rarely used and was then transferred to Ipatinga FC . The return to the first division, however, was not marked by success, he was used in only 14 games this season and was relegated with the club from the top division. He then moved to third division club Criciúma EC , for whom he shone as a regular goalscorer in the state championship of Santa Catarina .

In early 2009, Associação Portuguesa de Desportos took over 70 percent of the transfer rights to Kempes, who initially signed a contract with the club for three seasons. However, he missed his goal risk, so that the club first loaned him to EC Novo Hamburgo for the 2010 national championship in Rio Grande do Sul , then to his ex-club Ceará SC for the Brazilian championship and to América FC in 2011 .

In 2012, Kempes moved abroad and was initially awarded to the Japanese club Cerezo Osaka in the J1 League . He then returned briefly to Portuguesa before moving permanently to Japan from 2013 and joining the second division team JEF United Ichihara Chiba . After two seasons, he went back to Brazil in early 2015, where he was staying at Joinville EC . With the club, however, he missed relegation in Serie A as bottom of the table. After the end of the season, he moved within the championship to Chapecoense . With the club he reached the final of the Copa Sudamericana 2016 . On the way to the final game scheduled in Medellín, Colombia , Kempes and 18 other players on the team died in the crash of LaMia flight 2933 . The final game was then canceled by the organizing association CONMEBOL , and on December 2, 2016, Chapecoense was named the title holder.
