The J.League Division 2 2000 was the second season of the Japanese J.League Division 2 . Eleven clubs took part in it. The season started on March 11th and ended on November 19, 2000.
Champion and thus promoted to the J.League Division 1 2001 was Consadole Sapporo . In addition to Consadole, the runner-up Urawa Red Diamonds also rose.
mode
The season was played in a double double round tournament, the clubs played four times against each other, twice at home and twice away; By expanding the field of participants from ten to eleven clubs, there were a total of 40 games per team. If there was a tie after 90 minutes, the playing time was extended by two fifteen minutes, whereby the golden goal rule was applied. If it was still a draw after that, the game was counted as such.
There were three points for a win after regular time and two points for a win in extra time; in the event of a tie there was a counter for each team. The table for each semi-series was created according to the following criteria:
- Number of points scored
- Goal difference
- Goals scored
- Results of the games among themselves
- Decision game or coin toss
The two clubs with the most points rose to the J.League Division 1 2001 at the end of the season .
Attendees
A total of eleven teams took part in the season, one more than in the previous season. Here, the previous year's champions Kawasaki Frontale and runner-up FC Tokyo rose to Division 1 2000 ; Kawasaki ended a total of 21 years and began under the name Fujitsū SC period of the second division and rose for the first time in its history in the first division of Japan as well as FC Tokyo, which spent a total of nine years on the second tier of the Japanese league pyramid , eight of them under the name Tokyo Gas FC .
The two promoted teams were replaced by the worst two teams in Division 1 in 1999 . The table penultimate Urawa Red Diamonds spent here before since its foundation as Mitsubishi Motors in 1965 only one season - the 1989/90 season - in the second division; Bellmare Hiratsuka last played in the Japan Football League in 1993 at the second highest level. The Division 1 bottom of the table last year also renamed itself after relegation to Shonan Bellmare .
As a new club from the Japan Football League 1999 , the Mito could welcome HollyHock . Mito had already applied as a founding member a year earlier, but was initially rejected due to insufficient funding for the team. The admission to the J.League , which was a year late, was all the more surprising , because the JFL champion Yokohama FC , who was also an extraordinary J.League member, was higher in the admission order than HollyHock, who came third, in the 1999 season .
