Hitachi ( Japanese 日立 市 , -shi ) is a city in Japan in Ibaraki Prefecture .

Hitachi is north of Mito and south of Iwaki .
The natural disaster of the Tōhoku earthquake on March 11, 2011 with the subsequent tsunami left 13 dead in Hitachi. 436 residential buildings were completely destroyed and 3,989 others were partially destroyed.
history
Hitachi was founded here in 1910 . The company has been based in Tokyo for a long time and is no longer represented in the place where it was founded.
Hitachi was granted town charter on September 1, 1939.
