Yūzō Funakoshi ( Japanese 船 越 優 蔵 , Funakoshi Yūzō ; born June 12, 1977 in Hyōgo Prefecture ) is a former Japanese football player .

Career

Funakoshi learned to play soccer on the school team at Kunimi High School . He signed his first contract with Gamba Osaka in 1996 . The club played in the highest league in the country, the J1 League . In 1996 he was loaned to Telstar in the Netherlands . In 1997 he returned to Gamba Osaka. In 1999 he moved to league competitor Bellmare Hiratsuka (today: Shonan Bellmare). At the end of the 1999 season, the club was relegated to the J2 League . For the club he completed 20 games. In 2001 he moved to league competitor Ōita Trinita . For the club he completed 27 games. In 2002 he moved to league rivals Albirex Niigata . In 2003 he was with the club master of the J2 League and rose to the J1 League. For the club he completed 71 games. In 2007 he moved to the second division club Tokyo Verdy . In 2007 he was runner-up in the J2 League with the club and was promoted to the J1 League. At the end of the 2008 season, the club was relegated to the J2 League. For the club he completed 44 games. In 2010 he moved to SC Sagamihara . At the end of 2010 he ended his career as a football player.
