The J.League Division 2 2005 was the seventh season of the Japanese J.League Division 2 . Twelve clubs took part in it. The season began on March 5th and ended on December 3rd, 2005, the relegation games with the table sixteenth of Division 1 2005 were played on December 7th and 10th.
Champion and thus promoted to the J.League Division 1 2006 was Kyōto Purple Sanga . In addition to Kyōto, runner-up Avispa Fukuoka and third-placed Ventforet Kofu rose, Kofu prevailed in the relegation in two games over Kashiwa Reysol .
mode
The season was played in a double double round tournament, the clubs played four times against each other, twice at home and twice away; a total of 44 games per team resulted. There were three points for a win and one point for a draw. The table was created according to the following criteria:
- Number of points scored
- Goal difference
- Goals scored
- Results of the games among themselves
- Decision game or coin toss
The two clubs with the most points were promoted to the J.League Division 1 2006 at the end of the season . The table third played with the table sixteenth of the J.League Division 1 2005 in a two- legged manner for another place in Division 1. In the event of a tie after the end of these two games, the away goals rule was applied; should this not result in a decision either, extra time and, if necessary, a penalty shoot- out was carried out.
Attendees
A total of twelve teams took part in the season. Here, at the end of the preseason, two clubs rose to Division 1 in 2005 . Master Kawasaki Frontale dominated the league like no other team in the history of the league and ended a four-year league membership with 29 points ahead of the relegation place and 104 goals scored. Runner-up Ōmiya Ardija managed after a total of eleven years the second division, the first five of them under the name NTT Kantō SC as a member of the Japan Football League , for the first time in its history the leap into a top Japanese football league. The table third Avispa Fukuoka could not use his chance in the relegation against the bottom of the table in Division 1 2004 , Kashiwa Reysol , and remained in Division 2 for another year.
Due to an expansion of the Division 1 field of participants from sixteen to eighteen teams and Kashiwa's success in relegation, there were no relegations from the House of Lords. The league was instead filled with two clubs from the Japan Football League , so for the first time since the 2001 season , the J.League took on new members. Ōtsuka Pharmaceuticals SC , champions of the Japan Football League 2003 and 2004 , last played in the 1998 season before the introduction of Division 2 second division football and even finished this season in ninth place, but the lack of economic stability prevented membership in the J. League. The JFL-third placed Thespa Kusatsu however, managed to climb just around three leagues within two years the feat, because only twelve months earlier by winning the regional leagues-finals reached promotion to the JFL was performed as a member of Division 2 of the Kanto - Regional .
According to league guidelines, Ōtsuka Pharmaceuticals SC renamed itself before the start of the season. As a new name, the team chose Tokushima Vortis , under which they (albeit in reverse order of the words) had competed for several seasons in the mid-1990s.

Relegation
In the relegation for a place in Division 1 for the coming season, third-placed Ventforet Kofu met Kashiwa Reysol , who was sixteenth in Division 1, just like last year. One player shaped the series decisively: Baré . The Brazilian striker practically took care of the team from Kashiwa single-handedly, had one goal in the first leg followed by six in the second leg and thus played a major role in Ventforet's promotion to Division 1.
