Shigeru Sakurai ( Japanese 桜 井 繁 Sakurai Shigeru ; born June 29, 1979 in Ibaraki Prefecture ) is a former Japanese football player .

Career

Sakurai learned to play football on the school team at Sakai High School and the university team at Komazawa University . He signed his first contract in 2002 with the Montedio Yamagata . The club played in the second highest league in the country, the J2 League . For the club he completed 133 league games. In 2007 he moved to the first division club Ventforet Kofu . At the end of the 2007 season, the club was relegated to the J2 League. For the club he completed 30 league games. In 2009 he moved to league rivals Vegalta Sendai . In 2009 he was with the club master of the J2 League and rose to the J1 League . In 2012 he was runner-up in the J1 League with the club. In 2015 he moved to the second division team Tochigi SC . For the club he completed 20 league games. At the end of 2015, he ended his career as a football player.
