The Urawa Komaba Stadium ( jap. さいたま市駒場スタジアム, Saitama-shi Komaba Sutajiamu , "Komaba Stadium of Saitama City"; before the founding of the city in 2001 浦和市駒場スタジアム Urawa-shi Komaba Stadium , German , Komaba Stadium of the city Urawa ' ; coll. Also today 浦 和 駒 場 ス タ ジ ア ム , "Urawa Komaba Stadium") is a football stadium with an athletics facility in the Urawa district of Saitama city in the Japanese prefecture of Saitama . It was completed in 1967 and after several renovations and extensions, most recently in 1995, now seats 21,500 spectators. Only a small part of the stadium pitches are covered.
The main user of the stadium on the main island of Honshu was the football club Urawa Red Diamonds , which played its home games in the 1st division of the J. League from 1992 to 2001 . From 2001 until the complete move out of the Urawa Komaba Stadium in 2010, the Urawa men's team mainly played in the Saitama Stadium in 2002 with 63,718 seats. Most of the games are currently played there by the Urawa Red Diamonds Ladies , the women's team of the Urawa Reds. From 2005 to 2007, the wide stadium area was also the venue for city rivals Ōmiya Ardija from the Ōmiya district , as their NACK5 Stadium Ōmiya was under renovation.
In 2012, the municipal stadium was one of five venues for the U-20 Women's World Cup . There were six group matches and two quarter-finals in Saitama.
The walk to the next train station ( Kita-Urawa train station or Urawa train station ) takes around 20 minutes, and there is a shuttle bus service to the stadium on match days.
