The Esporte Clube Novo Hamburgo is a football club from the city of Novo Hamburgo in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul 40 km north of the capital, Porto Alegre located inland. The colors of the club are white and indigo, ( port .; Anil). The club is therefore often called anilado . Another name is Nóia . The club, which has built up an unbroken football tradition since its foundation in 1911, was also a participant in the Brazilian football championship in 1979 at the highest level.
history
The shoe manufacturer Pedro Adams Filho held a barbecue for his employees on the occasion of Labor Day on May 1, 1911. There was also a soccer game among those involved, which was very well received. This gave rise to the club originally called Adams Futebol Clube , which soon mutated into the Esporte Clube Novo Hamburgo via Sport Club Novo Hamburgo .
After Brazil entered the war in 1944, names and designations that were reminiscent of the Axis powers were largely changed . The city of Novo Hamburgo was renamed Marechal Floriano Peixoto . The club then called itself Esporte Clube Floriano and only reverted to its previous name in 1968.
From 1942 to 1952 the club was in one of its more successful phases and was runner-up in those years five times at the state championship of Rio Grande do Sul . The first title, however, was the city championship of Porto Alegre in 1937. By winning this title, Novo Hamburgo prevented a team from the capital from entering the games for the state championship, the Campeonato Gaúcho. A Gaúchão without participation in the capital only existed in 1940. In 1979 Novo Hamburgo took part in the national football championship of Brazil . There the new Hamburgers remained inconspicuous and were finally classified as 70th among a field of 94 clubs. In 2005, the club won the Rio Grand do Sul Cup for the first time , which in 2006 qualified for participation in the third highest national league, the Série C. In 2013 this title could be won a second time.
After five runner-up championships (1942, 1947, 1949, 1950, 1952), Novo Hamburgo was able to defeat the series champion SC Internacional on May 7, 2017 after a penalty shoot-out in the final game of the state championship and thus achieve the first championship title in club history.
Stadion
After Novo Hamburgo sold the Santa Rosa stadium , which offered space for 17,000 spectators, the club moved to the Estádio do Vale (valley stadium) in the Libertade district. Work on the new stadium began in January 2006. It opened on August 1, 2008. The name of the stadium was determined through a member survey.
The stadium currently has a capacity of 4,000 spectators. After the final expansion phase, the stadium should offer a total of 12,000 spectators. In the opening game on August 17, 2008, Nova Hamburgo defeated the Criciúma EC 2-1. The guest player Tiago Moraes had the honor of scoring the first goal.
