Campeonato Brasileiro de Futebol - Série D

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Série D is the fourth and lowest division in the league system of the national football championship of the men of Brazil (Portuguese Campeonato Brasileiro de Futebol ) which is organized by the national football association CBF .

The Série D was established for the 2009 season and since then represents the entry into the national championship competition for the clubs, provided that they are not already represented in the higher-class leagues. The qualifiers for the Série D are determined through the competitions held by the respective state associations of the states, usually from their own championship tournaments and state cup eliminations . All starting places are allocated anew for each season, which means that the field of participants in a fourth division season varies from year to year. If a club has not achieved a promotion place to Série C and at the same time has not achieved a corresponding qualification place for Série D in the competition at state level for the following season, it will be eliminated from the national championship competition for at least one year.

The Série D provides four promotion places for the Série C of the following season. An exception was the 2011 season, in which the fifth place in the overall classification ( FC Treze ) was allowed to rise.

mode

The competition in the Série D is still held in the modus operandi, which is traditionally considered to be traditional for Brazilian club football . All clubs first hold a qualifying round in which the qualifiers for the final round are determined. The final round is played in the knockout system with home and return legs. Reaching the semi-finals is linked to promotion to Série C the following season.
