Ōkubo learned to play football on the school team at Yokosuka High School and the university team at Komazawa University . He signed his first contract with Yokohama FC in 2003 . The club played in the second highest league in the country, the J2 League . For the club he completed 37 league games. In 2005 he moved to third division Sagawa Express Tokyo . In 2007 he moved to the first division club Kashiwa Reysol . For the club he completed two top division games. In 2008 he moved to the second division Avispa Fukuoka . For the club he completed 125 first division games. In 2011 he moved to the first division club Montedio Yamagata . For the club, he completed 20 first division games.
