The Eleazar Guzmán Barrón district is located in the Mariscal Luzuriaga province in the Ancash region in western Peru . The district was established on December 9, 1985. The district was named after Eleazar Guzmán Barrón (1899–1957), a Peruvian medic and biochemist.

The district has an area of ​​98.5 km². The 2017 census counted 1385 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1349, in 2007 it was 1333. The district administration is located in the 2950  m high village of Pampachacra with 156 inhabitants (as of 2017). Pampachacra is located 13 km east-southeast of the provincial capital Piscobamba .

Geographical location

The Eleazar Guzmán Barrón district is located in the southeast of the Mariscal Luzuriaga province. The rivers Río Yanamayo and Río Marañón flow along the southern and eastern district borders .

The Eleazar Guzmán Barrón district is bordered to the west by the district Llama , in the extreme northwest of the district Musga , on the north by the district Fidel Olivas Escudero , on the east by the district Canchabamba ( province Huacaybamba ) and in the south by the district San Nicolás ( Province Carlos Fermín Fitzcarrald ).
