The Lucma district is located in the Mariscal Luzuriaga Province in the Ancash region in western Peru . It has an area of ​​75.3 km². The population development is decreasing. The number of inhabitants was 2732 in 2017. The administrative center is the town of Lucma at an altitude of 3083  m with 125 inhabitants (as of 2017).

The patron saint of the village is the "San Miguel Arcángel", which is why the village festival takes place on October 28th.

Geographical location

The Lucma district is located in the far west of the province on the eastern slope of the Cordillera Blanca , a mountain range of the Peruvian western cordillera . The district extends over the southern half of the valley of the Quebrada Yurma River , which is fed by a glacier below the 5345  m high Pucaraju Mountain . In the east, the district extends to the Río Pacosbamba , the left headwaters of the Río Yanamayo . This separates the Lucma district from the Musga district further east . In the south is the Llumpa district , in the north the Huayllán district . The western border of the district is formed by the peaks Yanagaga and Tuctubamba as well as the mountain Pucaraju.
