The Huayllán district is located in the Pomabamba province in the Ancash region in western Peru . The district was established on June 28, 1955. It has an area of 88.8 km². The 2017 census counted 3132 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 3749, in 2007 it was 3666. The district administration is located in the 3000 m high village of Huayllán with 516 inhabitants (as of 2017). Huayllán is located 5 km southeast of the provincial capital Pomabamba . The archaeological site of Yayno is located in the center of the district on a ridge.
Geographical location
The Huayllán district is located on the eastern flank of the Cordillera Blanca in the extreme southwest of the Pomabamba province. The Río Pomabamba flows along the northeastern district boundary to the southeast. In the far west, the district extends to the 5830 m high summit Nevado Taulliraju .
The Huayllán district is bordered to the west by the districts of Yanama ( Yungay Province ) and Santa Cruz ( Huaylas Province ), to the north by the Pomabamba district , to the northeast by the Casca and Piscobamba districts and to the south by the Lucma district (the last three districts mentioned belong to the province of Mariscal Luzuriaga ).
