The Musga district is located in the Mariscal Luzuriaga Province in the Ancash region in western Peru . The district was established on May 12, 1962. It has an area of ​​38.9 km². The 2017 census counted 1035 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1260, in 2007 it was 1094. The district administration is located in the 2970  m high village of Musga with 339 inhabitants (as of 2017). Musga is located 5 km south-southeast of the provincial capital Piscobamba .

Geographical location

The Musga District is located in the central south of the Mariscal Luzuriaga Province. The Río Pomabamba and the Río Yanamayo flow east along the southwest and southern district boundaries .

The Musga district is bordered on the southwest by the district Lucma , in the northwest on the district Pomabamba , in the northeast to the districts Fidel Olivas Escudero and Eleazar Guzmán Barrón , on the east by the district Llama and the south by the district Yauya ( province Carlos Fitzcarrald ) .
