Verree Teasdale

Verree Teasdale (born March 15, 1903 in Spokane , Washington , † February 17, 1987 in Culver City , California ) was an American actress .

life and career

Verree Teasdale attended Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn . After attending drama school, she made her debut on Broadway in 1924 and performed there regularly until 1932. She played among other things in the play The Constant Wife on the side of Ethel Barrymore . In Hollywood in the 1930s, Teasdale made numerous films, often in the second leading role. Mostly she played elegant and confident high society ladies or the main character's rival for a man's love. She starred alongside Kay Francis as a senator's ambitious lover in First Lady , and played a betrayed wife in her latest film Come Stay With Me. Teasdale also played the role of the Amazon queen Hippolyte in Max Reinhardt 's Shakespeare film A Midsummer Night's Dream . After 27 films, she retired from the film business in 1941. Teasdale later worked on the radio, designing costumes in her spare time.

Verree Teasdale was related to the writer Edith Wharton . Her first marriage to William J. O'Neal between 1927 and 1933 was divorced. In 1935 she married the actor Adolphe Menjou , with whom she remained married until his death in 1963 and also appeared in two films together. You and Menjou had a child. Veree Teasdale died a month before her 84th birthday and was buried next to her second husband in Hollywood Forever Cemetery , Hollywood .
