Márcio Rodrigues Araújo (born June 11, 1984 in São Luís , Maranhão ) is a Brazilian football player . The right foot is mainly used in the defensive central midfield.

Career

Araújo began his career in the youth department of Atlético Mineiro in Belo Horizonte . In 2003, the player also made the leap into the professional squad. During the season he makes ten games for the club. After a temporary loan deal for the 2005 season to the lower-class Guarani FC , he came back the following year and was champion in the Série B with Mineiro . After that, in 2007, the player went on loan to Japan for Kashiwa Reysol . Here he could not assert himself, so that he ran up again for Atlético Mineiro in spring 2008 with a total of only nine games in the league and cup.

In 2010 Araújo moved from Minas Gerais to Palmeiras São Paulo , where he appeared as a regular from the start. On June 8, 2011, the player played the 100th game for Palmeiras and was honored by the club accordingly. After the 2012 season , he accompanied the club in relegation to the Série B. The club succeeded in direct promotion in the following 2013 season. Araújo switched to Flamengo Rio de Janeiro in 2014 . After his contract expired at the end of 2017, Araújo was signed by Chapecoense .
