Tomokazu Myōjin ( Japanese 明 神 智 和 , Myōjin Tomokazu ; born January 24, 1978 in Kobe ) is a former Japanese football player .

Career

Tomokazu Myōjin learned to play football in the youth team of Kashiwa Reysol . Here he signed his first professional contract in 1996. In 1999 he won the J. League Cup with the club . In 2006 he moved to the first division Gamba Osaka in Suita . In 2012 he was relegated to the second division with the club. A year later he was second division champion and rose straight back to the first division. In 2014, he surprisingly became Japanese football champions with the club. He won the Kaiser Cup in 2008, 2009 and 2014. He won the final games in the J. League Cup in 2007 and 2014. He was Japanese Supercup winner in 2015. In 2016 he signed a one-year contract with the league competitor Nagoya Grampus . The last three years of his career he played for third division AC Nagano Parceiro in Nagano . At the beginning of 2020 he ended his successful career as a football player.

National team

2000 Myōjin made his debut for the Japanese national soccer team . With the Japanese national team, he successfully qualified for the 2002 World Cup . Myōjin played 26 international matches, scoring three goals.
