Sef Vergoossen (born May 8, 1947 in Echt-Susteren ) is a Dutch football coach who has coached numerous Dutch and foreign teams in his coaching career.
Coaching career
VVV Venlo
Sef Vergoossen started his coaching career in 1978 at the Dutch first division club VVV Venlo as an assistant coach. There he took over the post of head coach at the now relegated Venlo. In the 1984/1985 season he led his club back to the Eredivisie , where he was able to stay upright. Nevertheless, he resigned his position as a coach and took over the management of the youth department of VVV for the next three years.
Eredivisie
In the summer of 1989 he took over a coaching position again. Vergoossen went to the first division club MVV Maastricht . He headed the club until relegation in 1995. He then became sports director in Maastricht for three years. During this time the club managed to rise again. In the summer of 1998 Vergoossen took over the relegation candidate Roda Kerkrade . He made major changes to the previous squad and, in the three years there, he reached international business twice with his team.
foreign countries
In the summer of 2001 Vergoossen went abroad for the first time. He took over the Belgian first division club KRC Genk , whom he led to the championship in his first season. He also won the Supercup in 2002. For the 2004/2005 season he accepted the financially lucrative offer from Al-Jazira Club in the United Arab Emirates . For the 2006/2007 season, Vergoossen finally took over the relegation-threatened club Nagoya Grampus Eight from the Japanese J-League . He led the relegation candidate to a sovereign midfield position.
PSV Eindhoven
After the previous coach Ronald Koeman moved to the Spanish top club FC Valencia , the Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven were urgently looking for an interim coach. Sef Vergoossen took up this challenge in January 2008 and immediately set a new club record with eleven unbeaten games to kick off as PSV coach. He took over from the previous assistant coach Jan Wouters , who headed the team after Koeman's departure and was later assistant coach under Vergoossen. Vergoossen won the championship with PSV at the end of the season. Vergoossen's successor for the 2008/2009 season was Huub Stevens from Hamburger SV .
KRC Genk
Vergoossen has been working as a consultant for the Belgian first division club KRC Genk since July 2008 .
