Daisuke Sakata ( Japanese 坂 田 大 輔 , Sakata Daisuke ; born January 16, 1983 in Yokohama , Kanagawa Prefecture ) is a Japanese former football player .

Career

The 1.74 meter tall striker began his career with Yokohama F. Marinos in 2001, where he made his debut in a 2-0 loss to FC Tokyo . On August 18, 2001, he scored the first goal in a league game against Kashiwa Reysol . Daisuke was a member of the Japanese team at the 2003 U-19 Asian Cup and the team qualified for the 2003 Junior World Cup . In the United Arab Emirates , he scored four goals during the Junior World Cup and became the top scorer. The team were eliminated in the quarterfinals and were defeated by Brazil .

He made his debut for the Japanese national soccer team on August 9, 2006 in a friendly against Trinidad and Tobago . After nine years in Japan, he moved to Greece for first division club Aris Thessaloniki in 2011 . But after only one half of the season he returned to his home country for FC Tokyo . He has been under contract with Avispa Fukuoka since 2012 .
