Yōichi Doi ( Japanese 土肥 洋 一 Doi Yōichi ; born July 25, 1973 in Kumamoto ) is a former Japanese football goalkeeper .
Career
society
Through the university teams of Jonan and Ōtsu , Doi came to the Japanese first division club Kashiwa Reysol in 1992 , where he was immediately number 1 in goal for the first two years. In the following three years, however, he lost this position and came to fewer and fewer assignments. When Reysol won the league cup in 1999 , he was only on the bench and in the league he only made three appearances.
In 2000 he moved to the then first division promoted FC Tokyo , where he was and remained the undisputed number 1. 2004 was his most successful year there. Not only did Tokyo win their first national title with the League Cup, he himself was voted the best goalkeeper in the best team in the league.
National team
As early as 2003, when Tokyo FC achieved their best league placement to date, Yoichi Doi was also noticed in the Japanese national team . At the Confederations Cup he was already set up as a substitute goalkeeper, in February 2004 he got his first appearance in the national jersey. At the Confederations Cup in 2005 and at the Football World Cup in 2006 he went to Germany, but was not used as number 3 behind the two internationally more experienced colleagues Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi and Seigo Narazaki . At 32, he was the oldest player in the young Japanese World Cup team .
