history

After the Greek liberation struggle, the two villages Mulki and Krimbas were located on the site of today's Aliartos. In 1835 the municipality in which the villages were located was called Aliartos. In the 19th century the English Kopaisgesellschaft, which was responsible for the drainage of Kopaïsee , had its seat in Aliartos. In 1919 the village of Krimbas was renamed Aliartos after the ancient city of Haliartos . After the Kopaïsee was drained, which was completed in 1930, arable land was created, malaria was reduced and the population increased. In 1951, however, the village was dissolved. In 1953 the village Mulki, which was 2 km west of the ancient city, was renamed Aliartos.
