Foundation of NTT on August 1st, 1952

The company NTT ( Jap. 日本電信電話株式会社 Nippon Denshin Denwa Kabushiki-gaisha ), listed on the Nikkei 225 , is in Japan the market leader among telecommunications companies. NTT stands for Nippon Telegraph and Telephone . The originally state-owned company founded in 1952 was privatized on August 1, 1985. Headquarter is Tokyo .

In 1988 the company's shares were worth more than Daimler , Siemens , Allianz , Deutsche Bank , Krupp , Thyssen , BMW , Bayer , Hoechst and BASF combined.

NTT has been a member of the Open Source Development Labs since February 3, 2004 .

On February 18, 2005, NTT presented a technology that uses the human body to transmit data. The “ Human Area Network ” is to be developed as a supplement to Bluetooth and Wireless LAN and enable data transmission over short distances with bandwidths of up to ten megabits / s.

On October 23, 2007, the subsidiary NTT Data announced a takeover offer for itelligence AG . At the end of September 2008, NTT Data took over 72.9 percent of the shares in Cirquent GmbH. On January 7, 2010, NTT Com acquires shares in the goFLUENT Group .

With a turnover of 104.8 billion US dollars and a profit of 7.7 billion US dollars, NTT ranks 46th among the world's largest companies according to Forbes Global 2000 (as of 2017). NTT had a market capitalization of approximately USD 96.1 billion in early 2018.

NTT Communications

The subsidiary NTT Communications is the largest data network operator in the world with around 7,500 employees. Based on ATM technology, NTT Communications uses various services such as MPLS, FR (Frame Relay), LL (Leased Line). As the largest TIER1 carrier, NTT Communications also operates its own Global IP Network (GIN) with the world's first and successful introduction of IPv6. Our own research centers are continuously working on ideas and solutions for data networks and data transmission of the future. Headquarters are also in Tokyo with additional local headquarters in London for Europe and New York for North and South America.
