youth

Usami started playing football at the age of six at Nagaokakyō SC , a sports club based in his birthplace in the Kyoto prefecture , and moved to the youth department of Gamba Osaka in 2005 and was initially a player in the U15 and from 2007 in the U18 team.

Gamba Osaka

On May 20, 2009 Usami made his debut in the AFC Champions League at the age of 17 years and 14 days as the youngest player to date . In the group game - in the 1: 2 defeat in the home game against FC Seoul - he also scored his first goal with the 1: 0 in the 64th minute; thus he is also the youngest goalscorer in this competition to date. Four days later, on matchday 13, he made his debut in the 1-0 defeat in the home game against the Kashima Antlers in the J. League , the top division in Japanese football. It played two more league games (both defeats) in the current season and won the national cup competition with its team at the turn of the year 2009/10 .

In 2010 he played regularly in the first division and scored seven goals in 26 appearances. His first league goal was the goal of the 2-0 final score in the home game against FC Tokyo on April 24, 2010 (8th matchday). After the season Usami was voted "Best Young Player of the J. League" and attracted the interest of various top European clubs.

FC Bayern Munich

In January 2011, FC Bayern Munich invited him to a trial training session and planned his engagement. Since Gamba did not release Usami from Osaka, a move to Europe was unsuccessful for the time being.

From mid-July 2011, Usami switched to FC Bayern Munich on loan. FC Bayern also secured a purchase option. On August 13, 2011 (2nd matchday) he made his Bundesliga debut when he came on for Thomas Müller in the 69th minute of the 1-0 win in the away game against VfL Wolfsburg and was replaced again in stoppage time for tactical reasons. In order to gain match practice, he was also used in the first half of the season in Bayern's second team in the Regionalliga Süd , where he performed well. Usami scored his first competitive goal for the first team on October 26, 2011 in a 6-0 win in the second round of the DFB Cup against FC Ingolstadt 04 with the goal in the 90th minute. In the Champions League he made his debut on December 7, 2011 in the last group game in the 0-2 defeat in the away game against Manchester City with a nine-minute short stint. For the first time he was in the starting line-up of a Bundesliga game on April 21, 2012 (32nd matchday) in a 2-1 win in the away game against Werder Bremen .

TSG 1899 Hoffenheim

For the 2012/13 season , Usami moved to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on loan . As with FC Bayern Munich, a purchase option was also secured. In the Kraichgau he scored his first Bundesliga goal on September 16, 2012 (3rd matchday) in the 3: 5 defeat in the away game against SC Freiburg with the goal to 3: 3 in the 76th minute.

Return to Gamba Osaka

After the end of the 2012/13 season, Usami ended his stay in Germany because the Hoffenheim team did not take advantage of the purchase option. Usami scored 19 goals in 18 league games after his return for the club Gamba Osaka, which was relegated to the second division in 2012 and was thus involved in the promotion. On December 6, 2014 (34th matchday) a goalless draw in the away game against Tokushima Vortis was enough to win the championship , as Urawa Red Diamonds lost 2-1 in the home game against Nagoya Grampus .

FC Augsburg

For the 2016/17 season he was signed by FC Augsburg , with whom he received a contract valid until June 30, 2020. Usami only played eleven league games for the Swabians.

Fortuna Dusseldorf

On August 30, 2017, Fortuna Düsseldorf initially loaned it for the 2017/18 season, and on August 4, 2018 for another year. With Fortuna, Usami was promoted to the Bundesliga in his first season .

Back in Osaka

In the summer of 2019, the offensive player did not return to Augsburg, but again to Osaka.
