The championship was won by Gamba Osaka ; after Kashiwa Reysol in the 2011 season , a previous year's climber won the title for the second time within a few years. For Gamba, it was the second championship in 2005. The little later also obtained by Gamba Emperor's Cup placed next to the team from Osaka, the second-placed Urawa Red Diamonds and the Third Kashima Antlers and Kashiwa Reysol in fourth place for the 2015 AFC Champions League , here The latter had to take part in a qualifying round for the group stage for the first time. mode
As in the previous season , the clubs faced each other twice in a double round tournament , once at home and once away. There were three points for a win; in the case of a draw, each team received one point. The final table was therefore created according to the following criteria:
- Number of points scored
- Goal difference
- Goals scored
- Results of the games among themselves
- Decision game or coin toss
The club with the best result at the end of the season won the Japanese championship. The best three teams qualified for the AFC Champions League 2015 , should one of these teams also win the Kaiser Cup 2014 , the fourth-placed team moved up. As a change to previous years, the worst of the teams qualified for the Champions League via the league placement had to play through a play-off round in the group stage of this competition. The three worst teams were relegated to the 2015 J2 League .
Attendees
Gamba Osaka as champion of J.League Division 2 2013 and Vissel Kobe as runner-up return to Division 1 after a one-year absence. The third promoted, Tokushima Vortis , finished the 2013 season in fourth place before he prevailed in the final of the promotion playoffs against Kyōto Sanga . The club will compete for the first time in its history in the highest Japanese football league; this makes it the first club on Shikoku Island to succeed.
The three relegated teams replace the last three teams of the 2013 season , Shonan Bellmare , Júbilo Iwata and Ōita Trinita . Júbilo Iwata had to relegate to Division 2 for the first time since joining the J.League twenty years ago, while the teams from Shonan and Ōita returned to Division 2 after just one season in the House of Lords.
