Dejan Jakovic ( Serbian - Cyrillic Дејан Јаковић ; born July 16, 1985 in Karlovac , SFR Yugoslavia , today Croatia ) is a Canadian football player from Yugoslavia .

Club career

Jakovic and his family moved to Toronto, Canada in 1991 during the Balkan conflict . Between 2005 and 2007 he played for UAB Blazers , the university team at the University of Alabama at Birmingham .

In the summer of 2008 Jakovic completed a trial training with the Serbian club Red Star Belgrade and finally received a contract. At the beginning of the season he came under Zdeněk Zeman to some missions (three in the league, two in the UEFA Cup qualifying), after his dismissal in the early stages of the season he played no role under Zeman's successor Čedomir Janevski . In February 2009 Jakovic moved to the US MLS club DC United .

On January 14, 2014 Jakovic moved to the Japanese club Shimizu S-Pulse .

National team

At the qualifying tournament for the 2008 Olympic Games , he and André Hainault formed the central defense of the Canadian Olympic team. The qualification was missed by a 3-0 loss in the semifinals against the USA. He made his debut for the Canadian senior team two months earlier when he was substituted on in the friendly against Martinique.
