Marcos Gomes de Araujo , known as Marquinhos (born March 23, 1976 in Rio Brilhante ) is a Brazilian football player.

Career

The first steps

The 1.74 meter tall striker began his career in Spain in 1996 with CD Ourense , where he was under contract for the 1997/98 season. In this Marquinhos completed 18 league games and scored two goals. His next stop was the Brazilian association Operário Ferroviário EC . After two years he moved to Coritiba FC , where he worked from 1999 to 2001.

Tokyo Verdy (2001 to 2004)

In 2001 Marcos signed a contract with the Japanese club Tokyo Verdy , where he played 14 league games in his debut season and scored eight goals. He was also in action for a game of the Kaiser Cup , where he scored a goal. In his second year he appeared in 15 league games, Marquinhos scored a total of twice. He also played five games in the J. League Cup , in which he hit the net once. In the two active years for Tokyo Verdy, he was on the field in 29 league games and scored ten goals.

Loan contracts (2003 to 2004)

After two seasons in Tokyo, he was awarded in 2003 and 2004 to the clubs Yokohama F. Marinos and JEF United Ichihara Chiba . At Yokohama F. Marinos he played 24 league games and scored eight times. He also played seven games in the J. League Cup , where he shot the ball four times. After one season he moved to the JEF United Ichihara Chiba club, where he played 14 league games and had twelve goals at the end of the year. In addition, he played four games in the J. League Cup, in which he scored once.

Shimizu S-Pulse (2005 to 2006)

In 2005 Marquinhos signed a contract with Shimizu S-Pulse , in which he completed 14 league games in his first season and scored nine times. After two years he signed a contract with the Kashima Antlers club and was under contract there until 2010. In his first year, he was able to complete 31 league games and hit 14 goals. He also had two goalless games in the J. League Cup and four goals in seven games in the AFC Champions League this season. In his last season he played 27 league games, in which he scored a total of eleven times. He also played one game in the Kaiser Cup (one goal), two games in the J. League Cup (one goal) and six games in the AFC Champions League (two goals). In the four seasons with the Kashima Antlers, Marcos completed 119 league games in which he scored 59 goals.
