Midfielder Junichi Inamoto began his professional career in 1996 at Gamba Osaka . In 2001, one year before the soccer World Cup in his own country, he moved to the British Premier League at Arsenal for 12 million DM (approx. 6 million €) . He was after Akinori Nishizawa, who had recently moved to Bolton Wanderers , the second Japanese player in the English top division.

At Arsenal, however, he could not prevail. At the soccer World Cup in 2002 , on the other hand, he was one of the most conspicuous players within the Japanese national team . After the World Cup, Inamoto moved to Fulham FC .

From 2004 he was under contract with West Bromwich Albion , which initially loaned him to Cardiff City for a year . With the national team, he qualified for the 2006 World Cup in Germany . In the summer of 2006 he moved to the Turkish first division club Galatasaray Istanbul for a transfer fee of 300,000 euros . There he signed a one-year contract with an option for an additional year. He was the first Japanese footballer in Turkey.

From 2007 to 2009 he played for Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga. For the 2009/10 season he moved to Stade Rennes in the French Ligue 1 .
