Hotaru Yamaguchi ( Japanese 山口 蛍 , Yamaguchi Hotaru ; born October 6, 1990 in Nabari ) is a Japanese football player .

Club career

Cerezo Osaka

From 2009 to the end of 2015, Yamaguchi was under contract with Cerezo Osaka . Before that, starting in 2003, he went through their youth teams. In 2009 he played 3 league games in the J2 League and at the end of the season the team rose to the first division. In the following 102 league games in the J1 League , he was able to score ten goals and prepare eight more. Yamaguchi is a defensive midfielder who stands out because of his willingness to run and who runs an above-average number of kilometers during a game. This running strength earned him the nickname Dynamo . Yamaguchi has played ten games in the AFC Champions League , 16 games in the J. League Cup (1 goal) and two games in the Kaiser Cup . The 2014 season ended Cerezo Osaka in 17th place and relegated to the second division. In 35 games he was able to score one goal and prepare four more. The team succeeded at the end of the season with two successful games in the J2 promotion playoffs the direct promotion.

Hannover 96

On January 1, 2016, Yamaguchi moved to the German Bundesliga for Hannover 96 . After Hanover's relegation to the 2nd Bundesliga , he moved back to his previous club Cerezo Osaka in June 2016.

National team

In 2013, Yamaguchi made his debut for the Japanese national soccer team . He was previously a player in the U-23 team . For this selection he played six games. Yamaguchi was part of the Japanese Olympic football team that competed in the London 2012 Summer Olympics. He played 2 games and reached fourth place with his team. With the Japanese national team, he successfully qualified for the 2014 World Cup . At the 2018 World Cup in Russia he reached the round of 16 with the Japanese national team.
