Okamoto learned to play football in the youth team of Gamba Osaka . He signed his first contract with Gamba Osaka in 2006. The club played in the highest league in the country, the J1 League . In 2008 he won the AFC Champions League with the club . For the club, he completed three top division games. In 2009 he moved to the second division Avispa Fukuoka .
