Miloš Degenek ( Serbian - Cyrillic Милош Дегенек ; born April 28, 1994 in Knin ) is an Australian - Serbian football player who has been playing for FK Red Star Belgrade since the 2018/19 season .

Life

Degenek was born in Knin in 1994 during the Croatian War . His family belongs to the Serbian population and fled the Croatian war in 1995 to Belgrade , where they lived in poverty and witnessed a NATO air raid during the Kosovo war in 1999 . The following year he emigrated with his parents to Sydney , Australia .

Career

In his youth, Degenek first played for Westfields Sports High School and the Australian Institute of Sport . In 2012 he moved to VfB Stuttgart . Miloš Degenek played for Stuttgart in the 2012/13 season in the U-19 Bundesliga .

On July 26, 2013, on the 2nd match day of the 2013/14 season , Degenek made his professional debut for the second team of VfB Stuttgart in the 3rd professional league against SV Darmstadt 98 .

For the 2015/16 season, Degenek moved to TSV 1860 Munich . In January 2017 he joined the Yokohama F. Marinos .

At the beginning of the 2018/19 season, Degenek signed with FK Red Star Belgrade .

National team

In April 2009 Degenek led the U-15 national team of Australia in two friendly matches against Japan as captain on the field. On October 6, 2009, Miloš Degenek completed his competitive debut for the Australian U-16 national team in qualifying for the 2010 U-16 Asian Cup against Laos . He scored his first goal for the Australian U-16s on October 16, 2009 in a 2-1 win in the qualifier against Malaysia. In the main tournament of the U-16 Asian Cup 2010, Degenek was eliminated with Australia in the semi-finals against Uzbekistan and qualified for the U-17 World Cup . For the U-17 national team of Australia Degenek completed two missions at the U-17 World Cup in 2011 .

In October 2012 Miloš Degenek was called up to the U-19 national team of Serbia , with which he took part in a UEFA tournament in Lithuania for teams with a bye in the first qualifying round of the 2013 U-19 European Championship . Degenek made his debut for the Serbian U-19s on October 11, 2012 against Turkey in the first game of this tournament, from which he emerged as the tournament winner with Serbia.

In August 2015 Degenek was nominated for the Australian U-23 national team .

On August 29, Degenek made his debut for the Australian national soccer team in a friendly against England . Degenek prepared an own goal from Eric Dier in the Australians' 2-1 defeat . He was also in the squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, where Australia was eliminated in the preliminary round after two defeats against France and Peru and a draw against Denmark . However, Degenek was not used.
