Veljko Simić ( Serbian - Cyrillic Вељко Симић ; born February 17, 1995 in Lazarevac ) is a Serbian football player who has been under contract with FK Red Star Belgrade since 2018 and was a member of the Serbian U-20 national team .
Career
society
Simić completed his soccer apprenticeship at the Serbian racing club FK Roter Stern Belgrade and should move up to the first team for the 2012/13 season. But the defensive midfielder and right-footer Simić rejected the associated contract extension, which is why he had to spend his last year in the youth team of Belgrade.
On March 1, 2013 it was announced that the 18-year-old Simić had signed a five-year contract with the Swiss Super League club FC Basel starting July 1, 2013 and ending June 30, 2018. Simić should spend a year in the youth team of FC Basel and then be included in the first team. Surprisingly for both the club's management and the public, however, these plans were thwarted by the Federal Office for Migration , which did not grant the young talent a settlement or work permit in Switzerland. Simić comes from a so-called third country and therefore does not benefit from the freedom of movement regulation within the European Union and EFTA . According to the Federal Office, the existing exemption for professional footballers, to which FC Basel invoked, could not be applied, as it required that "the player was regularly used at national championships at the highest level for at least one year". After the Federal Administrative Court had confirmed this verdict, Veljko Simić was loaned to the Slovenian first division club NK Domžale for the 2014/2015 season, where he was able to acquire the necessary competitive practice in 17 missions. At the beginning of July 2015, the authorities finally issued the work permit and Simić was appointed to the squad of the A-team of FC Basel for the 2015/16 season, but was not deployed. For the second half of the season he was loaned to the Challenge Ligue Club FC Schaffhausen. He then moved to FC Chiasso , where he made 33 appearances as a regular player and scored four goals. Then he moved to FC Winterthur . However, for personal reasons, he left it after only two months and returned to his home country to sign a new contract with FK Zemun .
National team
Simić played for the Serbian U-17 and U-19 teams . He is currently part of the U-20 team, but missed the 2015 U-20 World Cup in New Zealand where Serbia was world champion because of a torn knee ligament.
