Career

societies

Dejan Stanković comes from the youth department of FK Red Star Belgrade , where he went through all youth teams. He made his debut in the professional team of Red Star Belgrade in 1994 in the game against FK Budućnost Podgorica . He quickly became an integral part of the team. Before the start of the 1997/98 season, he was appointed team captain at the age of 19. This made him the youngest captain in the club's history. His strengths were mainly in passing and free kicks.

After four years in Belgrade, Stanković moved to Lazio Rome for six years in 1998 , where he played 137 league games and scored 30 goals. With Rome he was Italian champion in 2000, once a cup winner (2000) and in 1999 he won the European Cup Winners' Cup and the European Supercup . Due to the financial situation of the club, Stanković was released for sale. The attempt by Juventus Turin to sign the player, however, failed because he was already in agreement with Inter Milan . He finally signed a deal with Inter in January 2004.

At Inter, Stanković played over 300 competitive games and scored 40 goals, including a hat trick on November 28, 2010 against FC Parma . He has also won numerous national titles, the Champions League and the Club World Cup , and was substituted on in both finals.

On July 6, 2013, he announced that he would be leaving Inter Milan after ten years.

National team

His career as a national player for the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia began on April 22, 1998 against South Korea . In the 3-1 win, he scored his first two international goals.

This was followed by participation in the 1998 World Cup in France. At the Euro 2000 in Belgium and the Netherlands, he and his team retired early. Stanković was a regular of the Serbian-Montenegrin national team , which also qualified for the 2006 World Cup in Germany. He was in their squad for the World Cup and played all three group games.

At the beginning of June 2010 he was appointed to the squad for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and played all three of his team's games as captain.

On September 6, 2011, he made his 100th international match in the European Championship qualifier against the Faroe Islands . As a result of the missed qualification for the European Championship 2012 Stanković resigned on October 12, 2011 from the national team. One last time he played for the national team on October 11, 2013 in Novi Sad in a 2-0 win in the international test match against the selection of Japan and replaced Savo Milošević as the national record player.
