Djalminha , actually Djalma Feitosa Dias Maia (born December 9, 1970 in Santos , Brazil ) is a former Brazilian soccer player . He was Brazil's Footballer of the Year in 1996. In addition, due to his passion for tricky games, he is considered a magician and is therefore nicknamed "El Mago".
Djalminha is the son of Djalma Santos (double world champion with Brazil in 1958 and 1962 ) and has dual citizenship ( Spain ).
Career
He started his career at Flamengo Rio de Janeiro and also played for Guarani FC and SE Palmeiras , among others . In between he had a short guest appearance in Japan with Shimizu S-Pulse .
During the 1997 Copa America , Djalminha was in the Brazilian squad and scored two goals. In the final, which Brazil won against Bolivia 3-1, he was not used.
In 1997 Djalminha went to Spain to Deportivo La Coruña , where he acted as a playmaker in the attacking midfield. In the 1999/2000 season Djalminha won the Spanish championship with the Galicians . After he headed his coach Javier Irureta after a disagreement, it was rarely used and was therefore not included in Brazil's World Cup squad for the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea by national coach Luiz Felipe Scolari .
During the 2002/03 season he was under contract with FK Austria Wien in Austria , but could rarely prove his qualities.
After a brief stint in Mexico at Club América , he ended his active career in February 2005.
Djalminha played 14 times for the Brazilian national team , scoring 6 goals.
